Police summon Kabwila
Police in Lilongwe on Monday summoned Malawi Congress Party (MCP) spokesperson Jessie Kabwila for questioning over her alleged links to Facebook pages publishing information critical of the government.
Both National Police spokesperson Lael Chimtembo and Kabwila confirmed in separate interviews yesterday that she was summoned to National Police Headquarters in Area 30, Lilongwe.
Kabwila said the issue that she was summoned for is a matter that is already being heard in the High Court of Malawi after she sought legal action against the individual allegedly manning the pages.

She said: “The police said they were doing an investigation concerning the Facebook pages which they showed me and said were problematic.
“I am already in court with a gentleman from Machinga who has ‘admitted’ that he opened Facebook pages in my name. I gave them a statement just to confirm that the pages are not mine.”
On the other hand, Chimtembo said the matter Kabwila was summoned for falls under the Preservation of Public Security Act (Control of Demonstrations), particularly regulation number four.
He said there is a Facebook page bearing her name which publishes threats that the country will go into chaos if the government will continue governing this way.
Regulation 4 of the Act prohibits an individual from procuring or attempting to procure another person to hold a demonstration or assembly in a protected place or a protected area.
